MICEB 2024 - Pioneering Green Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Podgorica

The Montenegrin International Conference on Economics & Business (MICEB) 2024, held on September 12-13 in Podgorica, Montenegro, was a CROSS-REIS project event that brought together experts, scholars, and industry leaders under the theme Green Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Organised by the CROSS-REIS project partner University of Montenegro's Faculty of Economics, the conference aimed to explore sustainable development through innovative business practices and economic policies.

Day 1 Highlights

The conference began with opening remarks by Mijat Jocović, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Montenegro, followed by a plenary session featuring prominent keynote speakers. Among them were Ron Boschma from Utrecht University, who discussed untapped potentials in inter-regional networks in Europe, and Maya Karkour from EcoConsulting, who highlighted the development of green entrepreneurship in developing countries through innovative solutions. John Östh from Oslomet presented a joint contribution with Aura Reggiani from the University of Bologna on network accessibility in the space-economy, while Olivera Vukajlović from the Cabinet of the President of Montenegro shared insights into Montenegro’s path towards sustainable development.

Sessions on Circular Economy and Sustainable Development

The first day also included focused sessions on circular economy and sustainable development, moderated by Milena Lipovina-Božović. Experts presented on a variety of topics, such as the circular economy potential of 3D food printing, the revitalization of degraded urban areas, and the impact of good corporate governance on firm value in Montenegro. Discussions centred around leveraging tourism for sustainability, consumer perceptions of upcycled food products, and the role of digital infrastructure in sustainable economic development in the Western Balkans.

Green Transition and Innovation in Finance

The conference's second session, moderated by Ana Lalević Filipović, delved into the green transition and innovations in finance. Participants explored the challenges of green transition in accounting, the importance of environmental risk management in the Montenegrin banking sector, and the role of green accounting tools in improving company performance. This session provided valuable insights into the intersection of finance and sustainability, highlighting the need for synergy between financial and non-financial reporting to foster sustainable business practices.

Day 2: Conclusion and Future Directions

On the second day, the conference concluded with a summary session in the Millennium Hall, emphasizing the key takeaways and future directions for research and collaboration in green entrepreneurship and sustainable economic practices.
