The CROSS-REIS project successfully conducted its first online capacity training sessions from December 17 to 19, 2024. Hosted by Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet), the training focused on equipping participants with advanced digital tools and methods for circular economy and waste management research.
On the first day, Dr. Wendy Tan kicked off the training with a comprehensive lecture on spatial multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA) in Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Participants explored methods for data analysis and pre-processing, followed by practical applications of weighted and non-weighted spatial MCDA. The session concluded with a brainstorming activity to define criteria preferences for case studies.
Led by Dr. Marina Toger, the second day introduced participants to spatial autocorrelation in GIS. Through hands-on practical labs, attendees learned how to analyze spatial patterns and relationships, applying these skills to real-world projects. The session emphasized the importance of spatial analysis in understanding geographical phenomena and decision-making.
On the last day, Dr. Umut Türk provided an engaging session on spatial econometrics, combining theoretical foundations with practical exercises. Participants used the R programming environment to analyze spatial data, gaining valuable insights into modeling spatial dependencies and trends relevant to circular economy projects.
The training adopted a learner-centered approach, encouraging active participation through workshops, discussions, and self-assessment quizzes. This method ensured that attendees not only understood theoretical concepts but also applied them effectively to case studies. The second module of the training, focusing on waste management projects, will be announced soon.
